Position Summary: The Assistant Supervisor Quality Control will work with either the particleboard team to evaluate products, test physical properties, and analyze data for process control and continuous improvement.
This position will also provide backup supervision as necessary for the Shift Supervisor.
Duties/Responsibilities: Lead a safe working environment: train employees in safe equipment operation; motivate employees to lead the operation to superior safety performance; engage in continuing education and improvement to processes and work procedures; and lead safety behavior by example.
Ensure a quality product is produced and shipped while managing costs by monitoring additives and testing board properties in accordance with established procedures.
Work with team members to continuously improve the quality of the product with the primary goal of meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
Provide front-line supervisory support/relief for the Production Supervisor during periods of absence, including employee timekeeping, discipline, and training in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Assist in monitoring the operation of machinery and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Verbally communicate shift activities with necessary personnel and complete required paperwork.
Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and support consistent with developing and sustaining a high-performing and accountable team.
Perform additional duties as required.
On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
Required Skills and Abilities: Willingness and flexibility to work various shifts that may include Saturday and Sunday work as part of the normal work week.
Computer skills including familiarity with creating spreadsheets, producing word processing documents, and managing databases.
Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.
Strong time-management and organizational skills.
Education and Experience: Prior work experience in manufacturing, construction, or a related trade.
One year of relevant prior work experience in a leadership/supervisory role preferred.
Environmental Conditions: May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable weather and temperatures.
Required Personal Protective Equipment: Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Positions may require additional PPE at specific times.
Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, a face shield, and a respirator.
