Position Overview: The Stage Operations Manager supervises the Stage Operations department, ensuring that all changeovers and performances are completed successfully.
Provides vision and leadership for the department and facilitates internal and external communications.
Pay rate: $37.
80 per hour Organizational Background The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works.
OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country.
OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1.
Manages Stage Ops personnel, including: a.
Assigns and communicates work assignments to staff.
b.
Ensures that changeovers are appropriately crewed and performed safely and professionally.
c.
Manages the day to day schedule of the Stage Ops staff and work flow.
Ensures two way communication between crew and stage management on evolving issues such as stagehand absences and put-in rehearsals.
d.
Ensures crew’s adherence to Stage Operations’ standards, including safety procedures and professional behavior, such as timeliness, proper lifting, communication style, and attire.
e.
Creates training regimen and standards, ensuring that stagehands are trained in stage craft, stagehand etiquette, safety practices, and standard procedures for changeovers and run crew duties.
f.
Performs performance reviews of Stage Operations personnel.
g.
Ensures that administrative tasks such as reimbursements, shopping, payroll, injury forms and receipt acquisition are done in a timely manner.
h.
Sets seasonal schedules for staff and communicates overall schedule to staff on a timely basis.
i.
Recruits stagehands as required to completely staff the work.
Orchestrates and organizes the onboarding process.

Leads the process of planning and executing the repertory changeovers for each show and combination of shows, taking time, space, pack order, safety, and the physical limitations of the theater into account.
3.
Models and supports the mission and values of OSF by: a.
Demonstrating inclusive behavior and creating an environment of belonging b.
Maintaining a safe and anti-racist working environment c.
Recognizing micro-aggressions and interrupting othering behaviors d.
Operationalizes IDEA by embedding OSF’s values into organizational practices including systems, processes, problem solving approach and personnel hiring and management.
4.
Evaluates and plans production storage systems.
Determines scenery pack order and storage locations.
5.
Coordinates rigging in the theaters with the Technical director and other department heads.
Creates and maintain OSF rigging standards and procedures.
Communicates rigging details and changes in a timely manner.
6.
With the Associate Stage Operations Managers, supervises stagehands on work calls, changeovers, tech rehearsals, load-ins and load-outs.
7.
Collaborates and communicates with many stakeholders, including: a.
Technical Director and scene shop managers to ensure that scenery meets the demands and confines of the rep in regards to space and time.
Reviews and approves all technical designs for scenery.
Determines changeover strategies in regards to storage and order of operations.
b.
Stage Management in regards to run crew needs, schedule, safety, and show maintenance.
c.
Props Department in regards to load-in, use and upkeep of properties items.
d.
Lighting and Video Department to ensure electrics and video rigging meet the demands of the rep and the limitations of the theatre.
Reviews and approves plans for Electrical rigging, cable paths, and storage locations.
e.
Wardrobe and Hair Department in regards to quick change areas, booths, and crossovers.
f.
Lighting, Sound, Wardrobe on changeovers, assisting those departments as needed and on day to day issues.
g.
Physical Plant in regard to the maintenance of the buildings.
8.
Monitors technical rehearsals and collaborates with personnel to optimize show run tracks; solves problems as they develop in concert with the Associate Stage Operations Managers.
9.
Develops and advocates for Stage Operations labor, material, and capital budgets and tracks them.
10.
Ensures that the theaters are properly maintained, including a.
Specialty theatrical equipment and other permanent stage equipment installations b.
Ensuring that the backstage work spaces are kept clean and organized.
c.
Organizing tools, gear, and consumables 11.
Approves and processes Stage Operations payroll.
12.
Participates in future planning and season planning of the Festival.
13.
Attends and participates in regular Production Department Meetings and show specific production meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: 14.
Responds to after-hours show and changeover emergencies.
15.
Physically lead and/or participate in changeovers.
16.
Serves as an emergency substitute for run crew.
17.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Production.
Supervision Received: Director of Production Supervision Exercised: Associate Stage Ops Managers and stage operations staff Qualifications & Skills: REQUIRED: Work Experience: Three years of experience in professional theatrical stage carpentry and/or run crew.
5 years of supervisor experience in the entertainment industry.
Qualifications/skills: Expert knowledge of theatrical rigging, stage craft, and theatrical carpentry.
Ability to read scaled construction and design drawings.
Competency in AutoCAD or similar drafting.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general comfort with computer systems.
Demonstrated competence in hands-on construction techniques and standards and the physical capability to operate standard wood working hand and power tools, specifically screw guns, saws, routers and staple guns.
Familiarity with work with metal including welding.
Physical Ability: Frequently climb and work from ladders and personnel lifts.
Regularly squat and maintain position.
Regularly crawl and kneel.
Regularly reach above shoulders.
Climb 24 foot vertical wall ladder to get to the catwalks above the stage.
The ability to wear fall rest harnesses.
May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, and pushing and pulling forces up to 80 lbs.
Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge: The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of external professionals and in-house staff.
Ability to do shop math.
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously; valid Oregon Driver’s License and ability to drive an 18’ box truck.
Ability to drive a forklift (OSF to provide training) and personnel lifts.
Certification to repair and maintain chain motors (OSF to provide training).
The ability to self-manage a workload in order to meet deadlines.
The ability to create a positive working relationship with designers, staff and other departments, even in stressful situations.
Special Position Requirements: Special Hours Requirements: Night-time/overnight and weekend hours, including Mondays, are regularly required.
Standard work week is Tuesday – Sunday.
Long hours are required, especially during technical rehearsals.
The ability to respond to show emergencies with little notice is required.
PREFERRED: Certification to repair and maintain chain motors.
ETCP Rigging-Theatre certification.
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Technical Theater.
