Supervisory Responsibility Supervision is not a responsibility of this position.
May oversee student employees.
Position Summary The Transition Specialist will promote and recruit new students to RCC and assist students through admissions and enrollment processes.
Provides services to eligible referral sites, associated agency partners, community agencies, non-profits, employers and local high schools to establish an effective recruitment linkage with these partners.
Communicates college admission policy, entry processes, financial aid, registration, and advises students on college admission and program information.
Coordinates approved student recruitment activities and performs orientations/information sessions and follow-ups.
Position may require travel in both Josephine and Jackson counties.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions Primary Responsibilities 1.
Recruitment Provide direct outreach to local organizations, community agencies, employers, and high schools Track responses to outreach activities and community meetings Recruit following goals identified through the recruitment enrollment plan and disproportionate enrollment report Align recruitment efforts and strategies to recruit a diverse student body Implement communication plans for community partners Utilize data to guide and direct recruitment activities 2.
Administrative Maintain broad knowledge base of college programs and services, articulation agreements, admission requirements, partnership agreements, financial aid, and student support programs Maintain broad knowledge of enrollment trends, student services/supports, careers/workforce data, labor market, and college policies and personnel Maintain data integrity through a multitude of software systems Prepare reports and marketing materials Advise and guide students through admissions, placement, orientation, and registration 3.
Teamwork / Collaboration Provide support for admissions, financial aid, and placement processing Develop and maintain community partnerships Coordinate and provide training to internal and external partners 4.

Screening Criteria 1.
Minimum Qualifications Education – A Bachelor’s degree in social science, business, teaching, or related field is required.
Experience – A minimum of three years experience working with at-risk populations or students with diverse backgrounds, including experience in an educational institution, is required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

Prefers knowledge of post-secondary educational systems including assessment, admission, financial aid and advising.
This position is designated as preferring bilingual fluency in Spanish.
Proficiency will be determined by a college-approved certification professional.
Proficiency is defined by the ability to express yourself over a broad range of topics at a normal speed.
You may have a noticeable accent and will make grammatical errors, for example with advanced tenses, but the errors will not cause misunderstanding to a native speaker.
It is the responsibility of the employee to maintain bilingual skills throughout the duration of employment.
A bilingual pay differential may apply to this role upon certification.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies) Knowledge – Advising processes, financial aid regulations, college policies and procedures, admissions, testing, academic programs, career identification, and college and other post-secondary entry strategies; college programs and services within assigned areas of responsibility; general office practices such as database management, Internet, Microsoft Office Suite® products (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), document imaging, and web-based programs required.
Skills – Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills; computer skills, preferably in Microsoft Office Suite® products; skills in planning and facilitating; recruiting, making presentations, and problem-solving.
Must have the ability to create and lead presentations that are engaging and in the spirit of recruitment.
Basic conversational Spanish preferred.
Abilities – Advise/mentor prospective and enrolled participants in planning, monitoring, and achieving goals; assist participants in problem-solving and goal identification; analyze situations and determine required actions; communicate professionally and confidentially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community partners; maintain detailed and accurate manual and/or electronic records; work as a cooperative and contributing member of a team.
Ability to work independently or as a team when needed.

Other Requirements For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

Grant funding is expected to continue through 6/30/2025.
