POSITION SUMMARY: Provide outpatient addiction treatment through individual, group and family sessions.
Provide education, assessments, treatment planning, service coordination, case management and maintenance of records following professional and ethical guidelines.
The ideal candidate will be sensitive and respectful of all people.
This position is primarily to work with youth, ages 9 to 18 years of age.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Accurately screen and assess clients in accordance with ASAM criteria • Diagnosis utilizing appropriate DSM criteria • Facilitate client participation in development of individualized treatment plans based on client strengths with updates as appropriate • Complete paperwork within the timeframes and guidelines of the Oregon Administrative Rules • Provide treatment in individual, family and/or group settings • Explain client rights and confidentiality policies • Provide case management services inclusive of referrals for wraparound services as identified • Ability to serve clients virtually and in person.
• Apply Evidenced Based Practices in treatment • Observe and collect urinalysis specimens • Provide client, family and community education • Collaborate on an on-going basis with client supports including family members, partner agencies and others as relevant.
• Provide consultation to community partners on alcohol and other drug issues • Provide response to crisis or dangerous situations as needed according to agency and professional standards.
• Testify in court as required • Model high professional and ethical standard • Model and encourage direct, professional communication among staff members and facilitate development of a positive staff support network • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served • Other duties as assigned JOB COMPLEXITY: This is a complex position requiring ability to work independently as well as part of a team; ability to approach responsibilities with a high degree of flexibility and the ability to shift quickly from various tasks based on the needs of the treatment team and clients.
Must demonstrate basic knowledge of addictions, models of treatment, recovery, relapse prevention and continuing care.
Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and maintain positive working relationships.
Counselors are expected to stay up to date in knowledge and skills in the field, particularly Evidenced Based Practices (EBP), and demonstrate the ability and willingness to apply new EBP techniques.
Position involves individual and group supervision on a weekly basis and with an expectation that the individual can be counted on to ask for additional supervision and support when necessary.
Adherence to HIPAA and higher standards regarding confidentiality of records in all settings is required.
Expectation of compliance with all ethical and professional guidelines.
Must have basic computer knowledge and ability to enter data in an EHR platform, complete work tasks via computer and the internet.
High level of comfort in using electronic equipment to perform tasks such as facilitating groups and one-on-one sessions in person or in a hybrid setting or via telehealth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This is not a supervisory position.
Peer consultation and informal team networking is encouraged.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: Position entails working with clients, family members and multiple community agencies.
Position requires good listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically and positively in all settings working in a collaborative manner in circumstances that are at times challenging.
Must be able to maintain verbal and/or written confidentiality in all settings.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Credentials must be minimum of CADC I, and to become QMHA certified within 30 days of hire.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Service or Counseling, Associate Degree in Addictions or equivalent life experience required.
Previous experience providing assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning; working with clients in multiple settings and modalities inclusive of individual, group and family treatment; dually diagnosed individuals and crisis response preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must meet State of Oregon OAR/MHACBO and requirements for a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor CADC I.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Spanish language skills are preferred.
Demonstrate and apply clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
