Communications Coordinator — Scope of Work
*Reports to: *Executive Director, Operations Lead
*Liaises with: *Program staff, Event coordinator, external partners
*Job purpose:*
To publicly promote the mission and programming of Firebrand Resiliency Collective (FRC) and its ongoing wildfire recovery and preparedness work across a variety of media platforms, with effective and strategic outward-facing communications between the organization, its partners, and the public as a whole.
This is an open position for an independent contractor or cause-based promotional business and shall be revisited monthly.
*General Duties*
● Write, edit, and proofread various types of content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media posts, and website copy by working closely with program staff and organizational leadership to synthesize ongoing accomplishments, milestones, and other important information (including shared affiliate content).
● Grow audience and engagement with internal and external stakeholders through implementation and maintenance of a dynamic Communications Plan that highlights organizational priorities and programming.
● Coordinate and manage media relations activities, including pitching stories to journalists and responding to media inquiries
● Maintain and grow organizational presence on Facebook, Instagram, and other
available social media platforms.
● Using best practices, generate ongoing engagement reports each month highlighting unique views and engagements from our audience, for the purposes of optimizing outreach efforts and reporting
● Assist in organizing and coordinating events, such as press conferences, interviews, and promotional activities
● Maintain relationships with key media contacts and stakeholders
● Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in communications
*Website Maintenance*
● Edit and update the website using Wordpress through Elementor
● Conduct a quarterly audit of static content, and update dynamic content as needed or at least once a month
*Internal Communications*
● Communicate with FRC and partner agency work teams via multiple platforms (Email,
Slack, Google Drive, Monday.
com, Basecamp and/or text).
*Grant and Fundraising Collaboration*
● Disseminate acknowledgements of funders and work associated with the funding, in collaboration with the ED and Operations Lead
● Promote fundraising campaigns on all available channels to drive donations, update campaign contact lists, and assist with donor acknowledgements and follow up
● Engage FRC’s board of directors with fundraising campaigns when possible
*OHCS ReOregon Specific Outreach*
● TBD in accordance with the upcoming work plan and HARP launch guidelines, anticipated to comprise approximately half of the workload.
*Skills*
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Strong public speaking abilities to effectively deliver presentations and represent the organization in public settings
● Proficient in writing for different mediums and adapting writing style to target specific audiences
● Ability to edit and proofread content for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and style consistency

● Familiarity with media relations strategies and tactics
● Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal teams, external partners, and media contacts
● Proficiency in using communication tools and platforms
● Ability to work independently and consistently
*Hours & Compensation*
Not to exceed 20 hours per week, billed at a rate of between $25-35/hour, depending on experience and developed skill sets.
*Working conditions & physical requirements*
Majority of work will be completed remotely in a work-from-home environment, with weekly digital meetings for strategic sessions and organizational updates.
Occasional site visits for documentary purposes or all-staff gatherings may be required.
