Expanded Function Dental Assistants are responsible for providing hands-on support to the clinical team and completing prep work so they can more efficiently care for patients.
Their duties include completing intake paperwork and updating patient records, taking necessary x-rays, sterilizing and organizing dental tools and assisting during dental procedures.
Permitted functions vary by state.
Duties/Responsibilities * Welcome and greet patients * Update and maintain patient records * Take X-rays and intraoral photos of patients * Schedule patient appointments * Present treatment to patients * Assist clinicians during dental procedures * Sterilize instruments and clean rooms and ensure all infection control policies are being followed * Prepare operatories for patient visits * Composites as permitted by state * Coronal Polish * Fluoride application as permitted by state * Topical Anesthetic as permitted by state Required Skills/Abilities * Certified according to state regulations * X-ray Certified * Ability to move fast * Ability to engage with patients Education and Experience * EFDA Certfied * High School diploma or equivalent * Basic knowledge of practice management software * X-Ray Certified (depending on state) * 2+ years in dental assisting is preferred but not required * Able to take impressions Physical Demands * Is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms * Is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
* Has the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
