POSITION TITLE: RN - ICU/PCU POSITION SUMMARY: Provides patient and family focused care as defined by licensure, as part of the health care team, in accordance with corporate mission, policies, procedures, and department philosophy.
Applies current and established standards for professional nursing practice.
This position will support ICU and PCU patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Demonstrates and applies in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards and techniques in accordance with the department, the Medical Center and the Oregon State Board’s Scope of Practice.
Maintains a current awareness of the abilities and limitations of each staff member and assigns duties appropriate to each individual.
Assesses the patient and implements appropriate nursing actions to meet the patient’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual needs; documents those needs with appropriate multidisciplinary approach, in a clear, concise, objective and legible way.
Actively initiates, reviews and documents patients’ Plan of Care elements every shift.
Maintains an active involvement in issues of cost containment at all times.
Demonstrates ability to identify and solve problems using critical thinking and professional judgment.
Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively using pertinent data with physicians, patients, families and peers.
Demonstrates a positive role in supporting, educating, and managing-up co-workers.
Effective, accurate and timely communication of problems and participation in resolution.
Initiates, supports, modifies and improves nursing practice in providing patient care as departmental goals / objectives change and as nursing practice dictates.
Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure care is proceeding as scheduled.
Involves patient and families in education and preparation for discharge.
Takes personal accountability for ongoing professional development in partnership with department leadership.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and effectively utilize time management techniques.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: Advanced nursing skills; (or the ability to obtain) Terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional nursing including the normal conditions of the ICU specialty.
Concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes.
Skills essential to the position are efficiency in care management, flexibility with priorities and activity; Demonstrated skills in analyzing problems, decision-making, planning and implementing action; Knowledge of and ability to use specialized equipment for assigned unit.
Courteous and accountable, with maturity to accept responsibility for self; Demonstrates active listening skills and is objective and impartial.
Must have initial TNCC trauma training; then may transition to TCAR for ongoing trauma education.
Must currently have and maintain CCRN or PCCN professional certification.
PREFERRED: Three-year critical care experience; PALS.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Must be in good general health, be able to frequently stoop, bend, and reach.
Must be able to withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 pounds or more, push/pull regulation hospital equipment, occasional sitting.
Must be able to function during periods of stress, trauma and/or disease.
Demonstrate knowledge of and practice of safe body mechanics and willing to be flexible, within reason, to meet the staffing needs of an assigned unit.
