00 FTE), 9-month, tenure track Assistant Professor – Entomologist position.
This position will be located in Central Point, Oregon The academic home of the Assistant Professor – Entomologist will be the Department of Horticulture.
SOREC is located in the heart of the Rogue Valley, a rich agricultural region known for its pears, wine grapes, and more recently, hemp.
SOREC contributes value to Oregon State University (OSU) and the local agricultural community through outreach and engagement with stakeholders, including agricultural industry, governmental and local organizations, and the public through high quality research programs and educational opportunities.
The person in this position is expected to develop and implement collaborative and independent research focused primarily on integrated management of arthropod pests of pears, wine grapes, hemp, or other relevant crops of commercial importance.
The research discoveries and impacts are to be communicated to peers, practitioners, and citizens.

in entomology or other relevant discipline must be earned by the start date of employment.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience in conducting applied research in entomology or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to provide solutions to arthropod related challenges to agricultural production by identifying problems, conducting applied research to address a problem, and communicating results to scientific or industry audiences.
Demonstrated ability to publish articles in leading refereed scientific journals, Extension publications, industry magazines, and digital media.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with other scientists and/or other professionals or industry partners.
Ability to develop and deliver educational programs in formal and non-formal settings.
Must have or be able to obtain an Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License within six months of employment and maintain throughout employment.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have Field research experience in arthropod pest management in woody perennial fruit crops.
Success in securing external research funding by writing grant proposals to commodity groups or local, state, and federal agencies or other sources.
Experience collaborating with an advisory committee.
Supervisory experience including students, technical staff or others.
Demonstrated experience leading a team.
Success in leading an agricultural industry to adopt new practices or products based on research results.
Teaching, training, or educational outreach experience in an Extension, classroom, or other setting.
Record of/commitment to work with underrepresented/underserved students or other audiences.
Life experience, education, or training that broadens capacity to equalize student success or impact underserved audiences.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Regular work schedule but may require some overnight travel.
Duties include working under field conditions such as cold, heat, wet, and dust.
Operate a motor vehicle to travel to research sites.
