We are seeking an Expanded Function Dental Assistant to join our team.
This position offers a flexible schedule that accommodates working parents, making it an ideal opportunity for those who seek a work-life balance.
The role primarily involves working with children, as our services are held on school grounds, providing a convenient option for those who prefer to work outside a traditional clinic setting.
In addition to providing dental care, the role also involves collaboration with community partners and conducting education presentations in classrooms, making it a fulfilling and dynamic position for those passionate about oral health, community engagement, and education.
Accountabilities Include: Performs Essential Job Duties Happy Smiles Outreach duties include: Performs a visual dental screen on all children at the participation elementary schools whose parents or guardians have signed a release form.
Assesses for possible dental sealant placement.
Records plaque scores and possible needed restorations.
Determines appropriate referral for follow-up care and chart referrals on the screening sheet.
Teaches the importance of oral home care and effective teeth brushing techniques and provide one-on-one oral health education to children grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
Sterilize all instruments used in the school screenings and sealant clinics.
Assists the school staff with the management of dental emergencies when contacted by school personnel or school-based health center staff.
Coordinates with the school-based health center team lead, work with the school staff and the children’s families to ensure that the restorative treatment has lasting benefits through the practice of preventative care.
Assists with sealant clinics with program set-up, production, application of dental sealants, and clinic break-down.
Applies fluoride varnish in the school setting, with parental authorization and at community outreach fluoride varnish clinics.
Completes respiratory fit testing and correctly utilizes designated respirator and appropriate PPE when present during aerosol generating procedures.
Applies varnish according to the fluoride manufactures instructions.
Attends and participate in community outreach events, which may be scheduled for weekends and in the evening.
Attends community outreach fluoride clinics and apply fluoride varnishes.
Clinical duties include: Prepares patient.
Sterilizes and disinfects instruments.
Sets up instrument trays.
Prepares materials and assists dentist during dental procedures.
Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.
Performs appropriate lab duties as instructed.
Assists dentist or hygienist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
Instructs a patient with oral hygiene.
Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist.
Perform dental radiographs.
Records treatment information in patient records.
Apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
Expanded Function Dental Assistants will place sealants on teeth in accordance with the Oregon Dental Practice Act.
Completes assigned trainings via La Clinica’s learning module system (Relias) by required due date.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy; work productively both independently and in a team setting; communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing to groups and individuals.
Education and/or Experience: Required: Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
Certification from an Oregon approved Dental Assistant Program.
Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
Skilled at using electronic health records as applicable to area of work.
Oregon Radiology Certified Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurance.
Current certification as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant.
Preferred: Current CPR/BLS certification (or obtain within 3 months of hire).
