Program Description Program Dates:4/7/2024-10/6/2024 About us: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults.
Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
SCA's National Direct AmeriCorps program advances urban climate resilience by protecting,restoringand enhancing public lands and waters as well as natural, cultural, and historical resources across the United States.
Service activities focus on projects identified as critical stewardship projects that improve and protect at-risk ecosystems and resources, especially in underserved urban communities.
PositionDescription: Project Location:Oregon Caves National Monument, Southern Oregon This internship offersa comprehensiveexperience in interdisciplinary natural resource management, covering various subjects such as biology, botany, climatology, geology, etc.
, with a specific emphasis on hydrology and hydrogeology.
The intern will receive training across a range of natural resource activities, including but not limited to hydro-logical processes, dye traces, discharge measurements, GIS & GPS inventory and mapping, database management, and report writing.
In addition to gainingproficiencyin these areas, the participant will actively contribute to ongoing projects involving wildlife monitoring, invasive weed surveillance, climate change phenology, cave monitoring, equipment maintenance, historic preservation, and more.
The dynamic work schedule will vary daily, prioritizing the completion of assigned natural resource tasks.
This role combines sedentary office work, involving computer use, with fieldwork in challenging conditions.
The intern must be adaptable to both environments, being capable of working in an office setting and navigating diverse terrains, including slopes, uneven trails, cross-country areas, wetlands, and snow-covered regions.

AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements: This position is part of a specialized SCA AmeriCorps program and if you are selected, you will be serving as an SCA AmeriCorps member.
To be eligible for this position you must meet thesebasic AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements: Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the UnitedStates; Being at least 18 years orolder; Having a high school diploma or equivalentor actively working tocomplete; Being willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checksconducted after position is offered.

M-F, 8:00a-4:30p totaling40 hours.
Schedule can be adjusted throughout the position.
Members serve approximately40 hoursa week for a period of26 weeks.

Park housing is in a dorm or shared-house setting.
Living at Oregon Caves is a social environment.
Individual rooms are shared (usually) or private and have a twin bed, dresser, and closet space for each person.
The intern will need to provide their own food,linensand all other personal items.
Utilities, bathroom facilities, fully stocked kitchens (refrigerator, appliances, dishes), washer/dryer, limitedWi-Fi, and a house phone are provided and shared.
Cellular reception is limited.
Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, coffee shops (high speedWi-Fi), etc.
are 20 miles away.
