The Director of Production directs the management of the creative teams, OSF Production staff, design process, and the build, implementation, run, and transfers of OSF projects.
This role is an on-site position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Sets standards, policies, and expectations for Production Department success.
Ensures OSF’s live repertory season is delivered safely, on-time, within budget and rep parameters, and with artistic excellence.
Provides top level management of all physical aspects of assigned live and digital projects: monitors design process checkpoints and takes action as appropriate in order to facilitate timely design deliverables; facilitates communication between the creative team and OSF stakeholders to ensure that everyone is working together towards the same goals.
Provides overall supervision to all Production Departments and stakeholders: creative team members, Scenery, Stage ops, Props, Costumes, Wardrobe, Hair and Makeup, Lighting, Video, and Sound by: Ensuring staff and managers uphold OSF’s mission and values, follow OSF processes, policies and practices, and adhere to OSF safety procedures.
Sets standards and policies for recruitment, hiring, performance reviews, progressive discipline, and the on-boarding and off-boarding processes of staff, creative team members, FAIR participants, and volunteers.
Oversees administrative systems such as annual budgeting and capital expenditure planning.
Models and supports the Purpose and Values of OSF by showing commitment to work toward inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility, creating a space of belonging for all audiences and employees.
Serves as lead negotiator in IATSE Collective Bargaining processes for Production and all areas where present.
Acts as formal Employer representative to IATSE Local 154 and leads the Grievance and Arbitration process.
Serves on the OSF Leadership Team and contributes to planning the future direction of the organization; carries out the organizational goals/vision/values; represents OSF when needed at Company Calls, pre and post-show speeches to audiences, etc.
Ensures consistent administration of the Production SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, and all applicable systems.
Leader in OSF season planning and repertory scheduling.
Sets milestone due dates to keep season planning on track.
Leader on the OSF Smoke team for policy and daily decision making in regards to working in smokey conditions.
As a member of the Leadership and Production Management Teams, works to support all OSF production activities, including providing assistance on shows, performing administrative duties for Production Department such as administering cloud storage solutions, orientation materials, notes, and running staff meetings.
Collaborates with the production management, contracting, and artistic teams in creative team selection, booking, and contracting, including the negotiation, preparation and execution of designer contracts.
Provides leadership throughout the season’s life cycle; making key decisions when consensus cannot be reached.
Ensures all productions and their designs adhere to safety protocols.
Ensures local authorities are communicated with and all regulatory requirements are met for fire, special effects, etc.
Collaboratively manages OSF developed programs (Season Central/cygNET issues), data entry, and activities with other stakeholders.
Key leader in organizing the response to emergency situations as necessitated by events such as pandemics, power outages, wildfire smoke, floods and/or lightning.
Advocates for and supports capital projects within the Production area.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: Manages and/or supports large construction projects within the Production area, for example, renovation projects in the theaters.
Supports special events which occur on-stage and involve OSF production staff such as community productions events, readings, memorials, etc.
Leads production process for remounts, transfers, and co-productions.
Represents OSF at organizational functions and conferences.
Interfaces with OSF donors and patrons.
Mentor managers.
Other duties as required by the Artistic Director.
Supervision Received: Artistic Director Supervision Exercised: Production Managers, Production Department managers, and Resident Lighting Designer Qualifications & Skills: REQUIRED: Work Experience: Minimum 7 years professional production management or technical leader experience in which supervising employees was a key part of the work.
3 years' experience managing unionized staff.
Rep or touring experience is a bonus.
Qualifications/skills: Deep understanding of the theater making process, superior skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); advanced skills in using and creating spreadsheets and Internet collaboration tools.
Expertise in managing union relationships.
Ability to analyze and understand issues pertaining to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
Ability to read a script and assess requirements in regards to staffing, budgeting and design.
Experience reading scaled drawings and drawing packages.
Thorough knowledge of theatrical safety conventions and laws.
General knowledge of all theater crafts – scenic construction, rigging, automation, scenic painting, costume construction, wardrobe, wigs, lighting, sound, and props.
Physical Ability: Ability to perform administrative work using a computer for extended periods of time; up to 12 hours a day.
Ability to access the theaters and monitor production activities.
Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge: Superior written and verbal communication skills (English primarily).
Strong math skills.
Ability to manage employee relations with a wide variety of staff with diverse backgrounds.
Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously.
Ability to work independently and to maintain a positive work atmosphere.
Special Position Requirements: Special Hours Requirements: Work schedule varies and includes frequent evening and weekend hours as well as many weeks in which more than 40 hours are required.
This position responds to emergencies on a 24/7 basis as required.
