Supervisory Responsibility Supervision is not a responsibility of this position.
May oversee student employees.
Position Summary The primary purpose of this job is to assist first generation and low income youth in our target schools to pursue their passion and dream of going to college.
We achieve this through grade specific workshops, supervising campus tours and cultural field trips, one on one comprehensive advising, financial aid, scholarship and pre-college planning activities, tutoring and academic advising.
The high school seniors will also receive additional assistance with processes associated with post-secondary admissions and financial aid (FAFSA, scholarships, loans, verification, etc.
).
Encourage and support TRiO students to graduate from high school with the tools necessary to pursue their goal of attending college.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions 1.
Recruitment Utilize direct contact with staff, families, inquiring individuals, and referrals Utilize indirect contact through social media, marketing materials, and high school staff Organize, coordinate, and implement events that promote enrollment Create, update, and maintain outreach, marketing, and presentation materials 2.
Advising Provide academic, career, and pre-college advising as well as college admissions and financial aid assistance to students one-on-one and in group workshops and presentations Coordinate events that promote postsecondary enrollment such as campus tours to postsecondary schools, guest speakers, on-site admissions, mentoring, summer camps and cultural events.
Connect students with career exploration options, assessments, and internships Provide individual assessments and learning plans Assist students with life skills including study, communication, peer interaction, interpersonal communication, and social emotional skills 3.
Record Keeping and Administrative Verify ETS application eligibility Monitor participant progression and enrollment status Adhere to FERPA and maintain confidential student records Complete monthly Time and Effort Reports 4.

Screening Criteria 1.
Minimum Qualifications Education – A Bachelor’s degree in social science, education, business, teaching, or related field is required.
Experience – A minimum of three years experience working with at-risk populations or students with diverse backgrounds is required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

Preferred Qualifications This position is designated as preferring bilingual fluency in Spanish.
Proficiency will be determined by a college-approved certification professional.
Proficiency is defined by the ability to express yourself over a broad range of topics at a normal speed.
You may have a noticeable accent and will make grammatical errors, for example with advanced tenses, but the errors will not cause misunderstanding to a native speaker.
It is the responsibility of the employee to maintain bilingual skills throughout the duration of employment.
A bilingual pay differential may apply to this role upon certification.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies) Knowledge – Advising processes, financial aid regulations, college policies and procedures, admissions, testing, academic programs, career identification, and college and other post-secondary entry strategies.
General office practices such as database management, Internet, Microsoft Office Suite® products (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), document imaging, and web-based programs required.
Skills – Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills; computer skills, preferably in Microsoft Office Suite® products along with Google Suite of applications and knowledge of data bases.
Skills in planning and facilitating; recruiting, making presentations, and problem-solving.
Basic conversational Spanish preferred.
Abilities – Advise prospective and enrolled participants in planning, monitoring, and achieving goals.
Assist participants in problem-solving and goal identification; analyze situations and determine required actions.
Communicate professionally and confidentially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community partners; keep detailed and accurate manual and/or electronic records; work as a cooperative and contributing member of a team.

Other Requirements For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

Remote Work Options (see AP 7239 Working Remotely for more details) This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for over half of the daily work period (about 60%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects.
The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, and 5-25 pounds occasionally.
This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Additional Posting Information This is a Full-time Classified, 40 hour per week (92%, 48 weeks/year) position in the TRiO:ETS department, serving Crater High School.
Starting compensation is entry level for Group 7 on the 2023-24 Classified Salary Schedule.
Position is fixed-term/grant-funded through 8/31/2024, renewed annually, with continuation dependent upon funding.
Grant funding is expected to continue through 8/31/2025.
Fixed-term/grant-funded positions do not accrue seniority.
Position will remain open until filled, with screening scheduled to begin 11/27/2023.
